Telecommunications Development Fund
Penny Pickett is the Business Director for TDF - Telecommunications Development Fund based in Washington, DC. TDF is a private venture fund that promotes access to capital for small businesses seeking early and later stage financing involving widely defined communications products, services or applications. Ms. Pickett develops resources to offer technical and management assistance to businesses actively preparing to meet their capital financing objectives. On-going projects involve developing additions to the TDF online Equity Financing and Corporate Governance courses, the national SpringBoard Enterprises venture capital forum series, and other outreach initiatives.
Ms. Pickett has broad experience in both the private and public sectors. Prior to joining the Telecommunications Development Fund, she served as senior advisor to the deputy administrator of the U. S. Small Business Administration. While at the SBA, Ms. Pickett was instrumental in developing the Equity Matters Seminar Series as well as the SBA - Federal Reserve cooperative workshops on access to capital for women and minority-owned businesses. She has extensive experience in working with business resources and management centers such as Business Information Centers, the Tribal Business Information Centers, the Small Business Development Centers and a wide range of business resource centers and foundations located throughout the United States.
As the founding partner and owner of a small business, Ms. Pickett spent over twelve years building a business that combined traditional graphics production and design with innovative technological tools. She is active in the Century Club's Grubstake Breakfast series, WomenAngels.net and serves on the SBIR/STTR Advisory Committee of the National Science Foundation and Johns Hopkins Advisory Council of the PT Programs in Engineering and Applied Science.
