Nicholas D. Stone

Nicholas D. Stone is Director of Education and Outreach for Virginia Tech's International Institute for Information Technology (IIIT), located in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Stone has been with Virginia Tech since 1988, serving on the faculty in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences where his research focused on systems science, ecology and decision support systems. In addition to his research and teaching he created and led the Agriculture & Natural Resources Information Systems program, a four-college IT effort to coordinate, support and develop IT systems in the natural resources. In 2001, Dr. Stone moved to Northern Virginia to work with Dr. Leonard Ferrari to establish the IIIT for Virginia Tech. He is author of over 80 professional publications, including a book on knowledge-based systems in agriculture with Dr. Richard Plant at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Stone is also CEO of ISIS Labs, LLC, a software and consulting company developing and supporting decision support software in natural resource management. Dr. Stone received his A.B. in Biology from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
