Technology Organizations Partner to Move Commercially Viable Technology to Marketplace
RESTON VA, April 10, 2002 -- LaunchFuel, Inc., a technology operating company that creates new technology ventures by partnering with leading research institutions, today announced a strategic alliance with MITRE, a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government.
Under the terms of the agreement, LaunchFuel will work together with the MITRE Technology Transfer Office to identify and move high potential, commercially viable technology and intellectual property to the commercial marketplace. MITRE’s technology portfolio includes software, hardware, processes, algorithms, technical data, and other products that can be protected by copyright, patent, or trade secret.
Gerard Eldering, Director of Technology Transfer at MITRE, stated that the alliance will help leverage the corporation’s existing technology into the marketplace. “Relationships such as this, and others we are cultivating, will significantly improve the way we move MITRE technologies to the commercial sector and help us achieve the goal of making our technologies available and supportable for our government sponsors and the public.”
Mary Knebel, CEO of LaunchFuel, described the alliance as a “great opportunity to bring companies and products to market based on the talent, research and cutting edge technology developed at MITRE, a leader in technology research.”
Knebel also stated that there is an increasing interest and need to efficiently move innovative technology from research facilities to the marketplace. “Businesses, consumers and the government can benefit greatly from the technology that resides inside these institutions. MITRE is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia.
