LaunchFuel Hits the Ground Running in 2001
Announcing First VentureBoost Session of the New Year
Continues Successful Program to Position Entrepreneurs and Startup Management Teams as Strong Candidates for Growth Financing
HERNDON VA, December 28, 2000 -- LaunchFuel, Inc., a premier venture services provider, today announced the initial VentureBoost session of 2001. VentureBoost, which is closed to the public, is a regularly scheduled program created by LaunchFuel to assist qualified technology entrepreneurs as they prepare to raise formal rounds of capital.
VentureBoost candidates must complete a questionnaire and provide comprehensive background information before January 9 to be considered for participation.
At a minimum, candidates are required to have completed an early round of financing such as "friends and family" or an angel round. Four companies are selected to participate in each
private VentureBoost session.
The two previous VentureBoost sessions were successfully held on November 14 and December 14, 2000. The upcoming January 18, 2001 session will be held at LaunchFuel's corporate offices in Herndon, VA and "guest" panelists include Stefan Strein, managing director for NextGen Capital; Dan Kole, senior VC analyst with Yazam; Erik Ayers, manager Assurance & Business Advisory Services (ABAS), PriceWaterhouseCoopers; and Mark Russell, vice president and fund manager for High10, LLC. LaunchFuel plans to hold monthly VentureBoost sessions throughout 2001.
LaunchFuel firmly believes that this type of prompt and direct interaction is most beneficial to entrepreneurs as they refine critical areas of their businesses - particularly as the investment community has become increasingly discerning. The following entrepreneurs have already participated in previous VentureBoost sessions:
Jonathan Carson, president and CEO of BuzzMetrics, Inc.: "VentureBoost was extremely helpful - it was wonderful to get such open, honest, and concise feedback. I find it very impressive that members of the LaunchFuel team were willing to give up an afternoon to help out some startups."
T.A. "Mickey" Finn, CEO of softwareland.com: "The direct point-by-point feedback was useful and constructive while the questions related to our business idea offered a fresh perspective. The private setting and easy manner afford greater interaction and understanding."
Scott Shaw, president of Fishbowl, Inc.: "LaunchFuel's VentureBoost is definitely worth the time for any entrepreneur, regardless of your development stage. The session provided an efficient, yet formal, platform for advice as we prepare to raise formal rounds of venture financing. The feedback was helpful and covered a wider viewpoint than just financial -- which seems to be the lone area of concentration with other similar initiatives."
Under the VentureBoost program, entrepreneurs have an opportunity to present their business concepts to a panel consisting of LaunchFuel professionals and experts from venture service companies selected from the LaunchFuel Alliance Network. Each Alliance Network partner organization understands the unique challenges encountered in the formative stages of building a business. After each presentation has been made, the panel provides candid and immediate feedback related to several key areas of each business idea including:
[corporate identity/communications - brand position]
[technical assessment - product management]
- Business Development/Alliances
[channel strategy - sales and distribution]
[business model refinement -- market opportunity]
[pro-forma financials - profitability - exit strategy]
- Overall Presentation
[structure of materials - content - delivery style]
